A great time for Bookstalls over the summer
A books stall held at Shrewsbury Baptist Church “Senior Moments” event was very popular and thanks to all of you who also supported Illuminate at the Flower Show – it was great to meet up with friends and supporters from across the county and also have several meaningful conversations with those visiting the stand. Thanks to those of you who through donations made it possible to be there again this year.
A Wonderful AGM – 4th July 2013
It was great to see nearly fifty members of the Illuminate Trust at the Trust AGM last week – held at Barnabas Church. We are so thankful to God that we are still a Light on the High Street and despite the economic times we made a small surplus – £19 is not a lot but it is on the plus side! Andrew Pattison gave a wonderful summary of activities over the past year – a better web site, more attractive window displays and an increasing number of second hand books. He was followed by Robin Oake who gave an impassioned ten minute talk on why Shrewsbury MUST have a Christian Book Shop. The evening ended with Christine saying how much she had a passion people and being part of a transformation in their lives – Illuminate had a job to do here. The photos below show Robin Oake, members of the Board and an attentive audience of Members!
We are delighted that Clare Mowbray and Mandy Fortune, both of whom have been volunteers since the Trust started, are now be in charge on some days. A big ‘thankyou’ to them.
We now have a new Saturday assistant – a new Ellie!! Some of you might have spotted her already as she has been spending some time in the shop getting to know the ropes with Christine and Clare. Best wishes to Ellie Sambrook as well – she has now gone off to University.
Win, who founded the forerunner to Illuminate more than 50 years ago, died in early October. When she started Win had little capital and no retail experience – just a conviction that this was what God wanted her to do. We salute her faith as we seek to follow the same God in a very different era.
